TechFW and SATOP Partnership

All TechFW members and graduates are eligible to apply to the Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP) for 40 hours of free technical assistance or entrance into the Texas A&M Capstone Design Program. The Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership administers SATOP and provides free technical assistance to Texas small businesses, startups, and entrepreneurs. All companies must have a distinct and identifiable engineering challenge that appears solvable within the 40-hour limit. Mention “TechFW” in your request form under “How Did You Hear About Us?”

What is Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP)?

SATOP is a FREE, state-funded service designed to provide technical assistance and speed the transfer of space technology to the private sector. By giving engineering technology assistance to Texas small businesses and entrepreneurs, SATOP helps them solve their challenges and increase their chances of succeeding. The program provides small businesses, start-ups, and entrepreneurs access to knowledge, skills, and materials that were previously unknown or unavailable to the private sector.

From 1999 to present, SATOP has assisted more than 1,200 businesses in Texas and has generated an economic impact of over $200 million dollars.

SATOP has assembled a unique network of partners consisting of the NASA Johnson Space Center, local aerospace and engineering companies, community colleges, and universities. SATOP’s Alliance Partners allow their engineers and faculty members to volunteer hours, providing technical solutions to small businesses located in Texas.

SATOP’s Strategic Partner network consists of Economic Development Organizations, Chambers of Commerce, Incubators / Accelerators, and Small Business Development Centers, with each one located in various parts of Texas. Each organization promotes SATOP to its small business community and refers qualifying businesses to the program. With these Strategic Partners, SATOP is capable of reaching all regions of Texas, including the underserved areas. In many cases, SATOP will refer requestors to appropriate Strategic Partners upon completion of a project to help continue supporting the small business in their next steps.
