Our programs focus on coaching the inventors, founders and managers of early-stage companies. We seek to keep the entrepreneurs focused on the important work of long-term strategy while also doing the tough day-to-day work of getting a company off the ground. We connect them with the resources they need to commercialize their tech.

Who is eligible to apply?Founder is a female entrepreneur is decision maker and 51% majority shareholder. Founder and business must be registered in the state of Texas. Founder must own, have licensed, or be working on proprietary technology or process with a high barrier to entry. Business must be for-profit. Past award winners aren’t eligible to reapply to the award. If founder has applied in the past and wasn’t chosen, she is/they are encouraged to reapply again. If an applicant has previously received funding from the Center for Women Entrepreneurs, in order to be considered it must be 12 calendar months following. TechFW employees are not eligible.

I don’t have a business yet, can I still apply?Yes, the award can be used for a start-ups.

I don’t have a patent or intellectual property yet, can I still apply?Yes, as long as you are working on a business process with high barrier to entry or a new innovative way of doing business.

Can a non-profit apply?No, the grant can only be used for a for-profit business.

Do I have to be affiliated with TWU to apply?No, the award is open to any woman-owned business in the state of Texas.

Can previous award winners apply?Past award winners aren’t eligible to reapply to the award. If a founder has applied in the past and wasn’t chosen, she is/they are encouraged to reapply again. If an applicant has previously received funding from the Center for Women Entrepreneurs, in order to be considered it must be 12 calendar months following.

How can I verify my business is woman-owned?Proof of woman-owned and controlled documentation could include and must show at least 51% ownership: Any woman-owned certification, sole proprietor/assumed name filings, LLC or LLP documentation, certification of organization, articles of incorporation, partnership agreement or bank signature card. If one document alone doesn’t show this, send the corresponding page that shows ownership shares with it. Do not send a copy of your driver's license, social security card or credit card.
