Darlene will be talking EQUITY - a source of great power & stress for entrepreneurs. Equity is leverage, it's control, it's a world of possibilities for your company. If utilized correctly, it can open new doors and extend your purchasing power. But, with great power comes great responsibility, and the flip side of controlling your equity is the possibility of it ending up in the wrong hands.

There are vultures on the hunt, ready to swoop in and take equity in return for empty promises. How do you know whom to trust with your precious equity?  It's not a simple answer, but Darlene has been on both sides. She will be candid about her experiences with being an entrepreneur who gave up equity and an investor who gave resources, networks and guidance in exchange for it.

Darlene wears many hats -- entrepreneur, CPA, coach, professor, CFO...and multi-time award recipient She was named the 2003 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in Life Sciences for North Texas, 2004 Leading Woman Entrepreneur of the World, and awarded the 2018 Dennis Stone Award from BioNorthTX. Between 2006 and September 2018, she was executive director at TechFW, where she oversaw programs to help entrepreneurs get their companies off the ground, working with successful startups such as ZS Pharma (acquired by AstraZeneca in 2015) and Encore Vision (acquired by Novartis in 2016). She also brought to fruition Cowtown Angels, an investment program of TechFW.
